Brain Wash

Here is a recent illustration I did for a client presentation. It is a good example of working with a client and adjusting an illustration to meet their needs. In the initial concept meeting we discussed using an image of a brain taking a bath. After I did some pencil sketched, which I wish I could find as an example, we decided to go forward with the illustration pictured below.

I thought it was a clever illustration because it implied both brain bath and "Brain Wash." When I mentioned this to the client they rethought the message and said they really wanted to imply a bath of chemicals. To me this implied a negative impact on the brain which lead to memories of Bugs Bunny bathing in a hot cauldron unaware that he was being cooked. We decided to go with an image of a Brain bathing in a cauldron filled with a chemical broth.

Although I like the double meaning of the original illustration the final art was a much clearer communication of the clients message. I also like the art in the second version more, so it's a double win.

Two Can Dance (or) Toucan Tango

Here is some art I made to submit to Threadless. If it does not print there, I intend to make over-sized prints of this image in the future. I know the phrase is Two to Tango but I could not resist making Toucans dancing; as opposed to having people dancing in Too-toos. Click on the image and make sure to check out nocturnal jungle animals in the background.

If you get a chance, please vote here:

Obama Nation

So we have a new President. I don't really get why people love this man so much, really more than they should. Don't get me wrong he will probably be a good leader, and I know he has inspired a generation to think anyone can make it to the White House. I just think it is foolish to put so much hope in one person. After all, he is only human.

IF: Punch Line

"I heard there is a gorilla at the end of this Punch Line."

Not much time for drawing much more that line drawings; alas I must try to stay fresh somehow.

Caricature

This caricature artist asked someone to draw his mug for a change so I did. See the actual photo of his him; you may have to scroll a bit. I was actually rejected as a caricature artist once at Sea World of San Diego. Go figure.

IF: Excess

This week's IF word was "excess." Not only does Rudolf have to lead his team on two sleigh rides, but one of the sleighs exceeds the federal weight regulation by quit a bit.

Camel Flying on a Rocket

I hope this makes someone laugh.

I didn't get to the "Chades Challenge" therefore I lost this week. I finished this piece because it was related to work.

IF: Captain part Two

Here is a second captain picture for IF. Being a pirate is not nearly as glamorous as Johnny Depp makes it appear. With the missing limbs, lack of female companionship, and peg legs sinking in the sand at misopportune moments.

IF: Captain part One

So now I will start posting for IF, Illustration Friday, whenever I can. There is a great community of illustrators there and I want to get into the action. This not a captain but it all about the duty of a captain.
