"Chades Challenge" 6/22/07

The two words for this week are "telescopic placebo." I didn't really have any idea what to do for this so I initially came up with an add. Fine artists and illustrators may shudder but I thought I would do something along the lines of MAD Magazine. This thought process lead to a telescopic placebo character named Mr. Tele-bo. I know this is a bit early but hopefully this will help others to be inspired for this week's odd words in the challenge.

Everyone else, all you other "challengers," seem like they are PhotoShop wizards so this week I wanted to demontrate what can be done with Illustrator.

For more "Telescopic Placebos" go to Mr. Austins blog on Friday the 22nd.

Dealing

Here is a little something I started at work but finished at home. It may or may not be used for a training session called "Dealing with Difficult People."

Another Challenger

My friend, Joe Ruiz, is a new "Chades" challenger who does not have a blog. Here is his entry. I look forward to seeing more charactor art from the next challenge. To see more current entries go to Austin Madison's blog.

Next Time I'll Take the Physical Challenge

Recently I was invited, I actually begged, to be part of the Chades Challenge. Once every two weeks, a couple of artists choose one word each (one a noun, the other an adjective). The combined words form the subject of the following weeks' Chades (CHAracter DESign) Challenge.

This week was Elderly Mermaid. Though my execution was flawed I think the concepts were good. The Mermaid Head represents an elderly mermaid obsessed with appearance: A sea anemone wig, Hermit crab shell hearing aids, sea urchin eye lashes, barnacle beauty mark, and blowfish lips. I also could not resist the "Nemo" reference.

I like the 1st challenge idea so much I also included a deformed sorcerer. I hope you all enjoy these, as I will enjoy all the other entries. When I figure out how, I will include links to the other entries blogs.
